Description

The Senior Lead Writer (SLW) leads a team of technical writers delivering content to external client projects. The SLW possesses and applies expertise to interview SMEs and conduct research necessary to produce accurate, comprehensive, effective, and concise information assets. The SLW has proven experience facilitating group working sessions and juggling various stakeholders and divergent perspectives to achieve alignment among stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Manages activities of a team of writers, including assignment of work, reviewing quality of writers’ work, recommending actions to improve deliverables
  • Designs information for conciseness, accuracy, effectiveness, and eliminates non-essential content
  • Organizes and facilitates Working and Review Sessions with SMEs, ensuring focus and timely results
  • Interfaces directly with multiple stakeholders within the client base
  • Assists with reviews on documents and adheres to Quality Assurance practices prior to distributing information assets to the clients
  • Participates as required in reviews of authored content with the writers
  • Creates and maintains style guides and authorship guidelines
  • Works closely with team members to share information
  • Ensures technical and visual consistency across multiple document suites
  • Practices and understands project management concepts

Required Skill Set

  • Minimum 10 years of experience developing content for the Oil & Gas Industry or other heavy industry
  • Professional consulting skills and business acumen to interact with clients and SMEs, managing outcomes to negotiate a win-win for all involved
  • Experience in facilitating Working and Review Sessions and gaining consensus quickly
  • Structured writing skills/competencies, including experience writing and editing standards, specifications, and procedures
  • Able to identify risks and impacts, and propose effective mitigation strategies, and to clearly communicate such to Program/Project Managers
  • Able to establish effective relationships with project managers, writers, client technical subject matter experts
  • Able to mentor less experienced writers to help them gain skills and confidence
  • Comfortable with software applications and technology in general, especially database concepts
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and a variety of PC tools and applications
  • Able to work under pressure and meet aggressive timelines
  • Experience working with remote team members, and leveraging best practices and enabling technologies to do so effectively
